More answers to recent topics from Mick Harvey:
Question: How did the band go about selecting which b sides to include and which to leave off the B Sides & Rarities project? How do you decide which songs will be b sides rather than, say, album tracks or singles?
Mick: The songs which were left off were for specific reasons which were actually meant to be posted on the bands site. One was simply too long to fit on (Where the Action is) ,one was an exercise in editing (B-Side),one we simply forgot about until after the project was mastered (From Her To Eternity - film version) etc.,etc...As we stated at the time, any or all of these may find their way on to an eventual Vol.4.
Generally songs which are considered to have not been completely successful on some level and/or are not deemed to fit in with the other material on the album being recorded are consigned to B-sides of singles or extra track status.
Question: Which song was the biggest revelation to you from the b sides project? Perhaps a song you'd forgotten about and unearthed for the box set?
Mick: The latter part of disc 2 is full of surprises from the never before heard version of 'Red Right Hand' through the bizarre version of 'O'Malley's Bar' to the 'Time Jesum....' track which most of the band had also not heard.
Question: With so many albums recorded now, where should someone coming to the band for the first time begin getting into the Bad Seeds catalogue?
Mick: Very difficult to answer and supposing the most recent album is how they have come to the band I would suggest 'Let Love In' and 'Your Funeral,My Trial' but really it would depend on the individual musical leanings and how far their interest would run.The Best of... would be a lazy answer but you could do worse.
Many of the older songs have changed dramatically in the way you now play them live, is there any chance of them being recorded as a live album, a follow-up to 'Live Seeds' for example?
There are many live recordings, especially from the recent tour, but then they don't include many older songs.Certainly we are hoping to do something with those recordings, the video tapings of the Brixton show from last year and the Hammersmith show from 2003 (which does include quite a few variations on older songs)
Question: Have you ever considered doing another album in the style of your Gainsbourg albums? Either recording more of his songs, or translating and recording other non-English songwriters? Is there any particular songwriters who don't write in English who you would recommend?
Mick: I will not be doing another Gainsbourg album nor is it likely I'll touch on that style of album again.I have been interseted in translating a couple of other individual foreign songs but not a large scale project along those lines.
Jacques Brel is obviously well known but much better for non French speakers to see on video. He's quite rivetting to watch. Also Jacques Dutronc. Can't think of any others off the top of my head.
Question: Who was the first band or songwriter you loved? Which musicians and/or songwriters matter to you most now?
Mick: I really don't remember.Perhaps The Easybeats (who were not one hit wonders in Australia) and The Loved Ones
My favourite is probably Nina Simone.
Of current living people I really like Mark Lanegan and Bonnie Prince Billie's albums
Question: What have been the best and worst things about recording a 'solo' album for the first time?
Mick: The Best - just getting to sing and interpret some songs I love.the worst - Wondering whether I should really go ahead with releasing it and putting myself through all the attendant extra-curricular nonsense.
Question: Will their be an Abattoir Blues Tour DVD released?
Mick: Probably
Question: Will the old VHS videos be reissued on DVD?
Mick: The Road to God Knows Where' and 'Paradiso' are due to be re-issued in a double DVD with some bonus material later this year.

well. i better start saving some money, then.
Great news! We need more live DVDs, and i've never seen The Road to..., so really looking forward to that.
Interesting Mick states that he likes the work of Bonnie Prince Billy and Mark Lanegan - two artists i just recently discovered myself... |

Haha, for the last one I just made this horrible moaning sound. "OOOOOHHH, DOUBLE DVD." I think I get too excited, maybe.
EDIT: I think the next question ought to be "what the fuck is happening here?":
(Sorry, don't have the full-size version anymore. . .It's on my old, non-working computer.) |

It's great that we get this info straight from the horses mouth to use a horrible phrase – but is really is wonderful! Thank you so much for taking the time to communicate with us.
Mick I can’t wait for your solo album to be released, and I hope you will be doing a few shows here in Oz (please come to Canberra, we need some decent live music here!!!) |

Message from Mick Harvey... That sounds so religious
"The message that God gave to Ezekiel, one that He repeated twice, describes this awesome responsibility"
Thank you Mick, you are so kind ! |

Mick, are you thinking about leaving The Bad Seeds? Because I think that's exactly what you're thinking. _________________ Hey, Let me in! |
